KPMG and the University of Amsterdam’s AI4FinTech programme have initiated a five-year collaboration to research artificial intelligence applications in accountancy. KPMG will contribute €100,000 annually to co-finance research projects, providing practical expertise alongside academic insights.
The research will focus on integrating AI into auditing processes and developing methods to audit AI systems themselves, ensuring their reliability and responsible use. The AI4FinTech programme, involving the faculties of Economics and Business, Science, and Law, aims to bridge academia and industry in the financial technology sector. This partnership aligns with the ‘AmsterdamAI, Technology for People‘ coalition, emphasizing the development and responsible application of AI. Recent studies indicate that Dutch companies are increasingly investing in AI, with AI expenditures comprising 10% of IT budgets in many organizations, particularly focusing on generative AI to enhance financial reporting. This trend underscores the importance of research into AI reliability in the coming years. Professor Sander Klous, Scientific Director of AI4FinTech and a partner at KPMG, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its potential to maintain the Netherlands’ leadership in AI and its significance for areas like sustainability. Marc Salomon, Dean of Amsterdam Business School, emphasized that KPMG’s financial support and practical knowledge would enhance the research’s relevance and societal impact.
