Unveiling the Future: new techniques for soft robotica and computer chips

The Behind the scenes tour on June 22 offered a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs responsible for research and development (R&D) to gain insights into the latest advancements in high tech systems and materials. The tour featured two prominent research institutes, AMOLF and ARCNL, which are internationally renowned for their work in the field. From automated tomato-picking robotic structures till advanced chip production techniques which are partly the basis for mobile phones.

Leo le Duc, representing the Science & Business Organization welcomed the guests with a an overview of Amsterdam Science Park, highlighting its significance as a hub for cutting-edge research and innovation. Attendees gained insights into the collaborative efforts between academia and industry in Amsterdam Science Park, fostering an ecosystem of scientific excellence and practical application.

ARCNL – Physics of Extreme Ultraviolet Light and Practical Innovation

The first stop on the tour featured ARCNL, where attendees were introduced to the institute and its focus on the physics of extreme ultraviolet light by dr. John Sheil. The research teams at ARCNL are involved in studying atomic-scale processes and nanolithography, aiming to develop advanced chip production techniques. The collaboration between ARCNL and industry experts was highlighted, emphasizing the practical applications and real-world impact of their research. The attendees had the opportunity to explore the labs and witness the state-of-the-art facilities used in pushing the boundaries of science and driving technological advancements

AMOLF – Soft Robotica and Design Matter

Dr. ir. Bas Overvelde then presented on Soft Robotica and Design Matter. The Soft Robotics Matter group at AMOLF is dedicated to designing and fabricating materials that autonomously adapt to their environment. Dr. Overvelde showcased how soft robotics offer solutions across various sectors, including greenhouse agriculture and artificial hearts. Participants were given a tour of AMOLF’s lab, providing a firsthand look at the innovative research and technologies being developed.

Networking

The event concluded with drinks at Polder where attendees had the chance to engage with attandees from various organizations. This networking moment allowed for valuable connections and potential collaborations to be formed, enhancing the spirit of innovation and cooperation in the field of high tech systems and materials.
